Character Overview
Diamond, often nicknamed Dia by Dawn and Pearl, is one of the two male protagonists in Poke Special Manga: DP. He is perhaps most notable for being very intelligent and having the intellect to that of genius. Perhaps this is why he is linked to the intelligent one of the Lake Trio, Uxie of Lake Acuity. Outside of his personal intelligence, Diamond is very loyal, driven, and often care free, as expressed early on in the story when it came to Team Galactic and Neo Team Rocket matters. But all in all, Diamond gives off a leadership mentality and almost always likes to be the to solve problems because he feels as though he has to.
As a child, Diamond was strictly taught by his father in the art of Pokemon Battling, Training, and taking good care of his Pokemon. It is because of Diamond's father, the famous Riley, that he is so intelligent about the world of Pokemon. Riley always said that Diamond would eventually give up battling once he felt that his time was up and become a Professor. However, Diamond's ultimate goal is to become a member of the Elite Four, eventually dethroning the Champion; whomever that may be at that time. Riley constantly training Diamond everyday. Alas, he did not allow Diamond to catch more than one Pokemon. Sam, Diamond's Ralts at the time, was the first Pokemon Diamond received from his father. Sam was a unique Ralts in that he was not that skilled in Special Attacks. So, Riley told Diamond to utilize the Ralts's physical attributes.
During his childhood, Diamond was close friends to his current best friend, Pearl. The first time they met was when Diamond's family had just moved to Twinleaf Town when he was around 3 or 4 years old. Diamond rang the doorbell and out came a blond bout about his height, slamming into him. Ever since then, they became not only best friends, but rivals as well. But things weren't always happy in Diamond's world.
There were times when Riley continuously left Twinleaf Town to run "errands" for an unknown organization and Diamond nor his mother, Ayako, knew why. One day, Ayako was fed up with Riley's disappearance and she told him to get out of her house. Understanding, Riley left and never came back for years. Thus, Diamond grew apart from his bond with his father and learned to fend for his own, as well as watch for his mother. You could say that Diamond had to quickly become a man due to his father's absence.
On his first day as a Trainer, Diamond, along with Pearl, went out to Lake Verity after watching a documentary from a few years ago about a rampaging, red Gyarados. When they went to Lake Verity, they over heard a girl and a professor talking. Once they left the Verity Lakefront, Diamond and Pearl approached the tall grass and were immediately attacked by a pair of Staravia. Having no choice, both boys selected a Pokeball from the bag, releasing a Piplup and Turtwig, and fended off one of the Staravia. However, the other one was immediately burned down by flaming pellets coming from the forest. That's when Diamond met his future other best friend, Dawn. Diamond took a liking to Dawn immediately, but he did not want to get distracted by a love interest on his way to being the best Pokemon Trainer in the world.
Character Deisgn
Diamond is a handsome fellow, mainly taking traits from his mother, but sharing pale blue hair and the love for the color blue in general (which could possibly be a reason why Diamond chose to keep Trient, his Piplup).
During the warmer seasons, Diamond sports a pale blue vest with a silver v-stripe down the middle. Underneath this vest, Diamond wears a pale gray, short sleeved shirt. He also wears light blue jeans and red and silver shoes. Most notably, Diamond wears a red beret/brim on his head and a red scarf around his neck. In addition, Diamond carries around a yellow backpack and always wears his blue Poketch on his left wrist.
During the colder seasons, Diamond wears a red, long sleeved thermal, warm black pants, and black and silver running shoes. Over all of this, Diamond wears a blue coat-jacket with the elbows and zipper of the jackets colored black. Around his neck, he wears a thick, white scarf provided by Pearl's mother and of course, he wears his red beret/brim on his head. For the longer trip, Diamond brings along his large, white backpack.
Diamond's Journey
Diamond and Pearl
Diamond's journey began immediately after he and Pearl met Dawn. Diamond and Pearl had just, respectively, acquired Piplup and Turtwig when they approached Professor Rowan outside of Twinleaf Town. Seeing the boys as worthy owners, Rowan allowed the two to keep their Pokemon. Thus, Diamond named Piplup, Trident, after a famous Empoleon actor in a movie he once saw on television.
Diamond first approached Team Galactic on the way to Sandgem Town one night. Two Goons sicked their Drapion on him, but Diamond and his Pokemon managed to duck and dodge away from the large Pokemon. At that time, Diamond's Pokemon were no where near ready to face a Pokemon of that calibur.
The next Pokemon Diamond caught was Rose. He caught the Stunky while battling his new friend, Jacob. Rose was named out of complete irony.
When Diamond arrived in Oreburgh City, it was being overrun by a rabid Carnivine. Luckily, Pearl was there and willing to take care of it. Meanwhile, most of the city had evacuated to the mines, so Diamond decided to check up on them. Unfortunately, Diamond was sidetracked by Jupiter and her Skuntank, the mother Diamond's Stunky, Rose. Skuntank completely throttled Rose and somewhat diminished Diamond's dreams. Later, Diamond met up with Roark and defeated him in his first Gym Battle.
Upon entering Eterna City, Diamond met up with Dawn again and helped her in destroying a Team Galactic machine underground. He then went to the Eterna Gym and defeated Gardenia.
Diamond returned to the spotlight in Hearthome City, he met up with his mother and Dawn at the Contest Hall. He decided that he could sidetrack his journey in order to watch Dawn in a Contest. But the Contest did not last long as Diamond saw Neo Team Rocket for the first, bursting through the roof of the Contest Hall. Dawn expressed to Diamond that she had encountered them time and time again on her way to Hearthome. In an effort to stop Neo Team Rocket, Diamond and Dawn went up against Uranus, a NTR executive, but were ultimately defeated. But, they got help from a fellow Pokedex holder, Gold of Johto. Diamond was so upset that Gold outshined him, he challenged him to a battle. Sam, a Kirlia at the time, was completely beat up by Gold's much stronger Typhlosion, Typhlo. Diamond was so angry, he yelled at and disowned Sam, causing the poor Kirlia to vanish.
Diamond met up with Gold, and his friend Crys, in Veilstone City. Diamond was still upset over losing, despite previous victories over Mark and Marcia of NTR and the infamous Spiritomb. While in Veilstone, Diamond managed to defeat Maylene and when another badge.
Time went on and Diamond, along with Pearl, made it to Pastoria City where he immediately went to the Great Marsh to capture a Pokemon. Upon entering, he was chased by a wild Yanma, whom he would capture and name Pilot, due to its flying skills. Afterwards, Diamond and Pearl went to the Gym and participated in a double battle against Neptune, a NTR executive and apparently the leader of Pastoria Gym.
After escaping the flooded Gym, Diamond and Pearl went to the small city of Valor Lakefront and met Dr. Footstep. The doctor observed Diamond's Pokemon and told him that they each felt as though they were missing something (as far as the Pokemon who knew Sam). This further made Diamond think twice about what he did to Sam. A time afterwards, Diamond and Pearl stayed in one of the many hotels, where a Goon stole Diamond's beret. Angered, Diamond chased after the Goon and completely owned his Glameow.
Diamond and Pearl received a message from Dawn to go to Celestic Town and meet up with her. But first, they met Cynthia, the League Champion who gave them Old Charms to give to her mother in Celestic Town. She also gave them a SecretPotion to get the Psyducks who were blocking the path to move. So, the duo went past Solaceon Town, after a detour to the Solaceon Ruins, and met Dawn there, each receiving a hug from Dawn (Diamond received a much longer hug for obvious reasons). Dawn led them into the Celestic Cave where they met Elder Maryland. She spoke to them about how their spirits were connected with the Lake Trio (Diamond with Uxie, Dawn with Mesprit, and Pearl with Azelf).
After the visit, Diamond, Dawn, and Pearl met Cyrus, the leader of Team Galactic. Angered by his doings, the trio attacked him with their strongest Pokemon, but they each were defeated by his Gliscor, leaving Dawn's Infernape severely hurt.
Although the defeat scarred Diamond, he went back to Hearthome City to face the Gym Leader who was none other than Uranus. After his toughest battle to date, Diamond locked Uranus in the dungeon and flew out of there. Diamond flew on Pilot back to Jubilife City where he met up with Jacob for the third time and his rampaging Hippowdon. It was then Diamond met up with Sam again and they reconciled after Diamond defeated Byron of Canalave City. Before that however, Byron had did battle with Saturn of Team Galactic who was in search of Diamond's father, Riley. For winning the battle against Byron, Diamond was told that Riley was on Iron Island. Diamond expressed anger and resent towards his father and wanted to battle him.
So, Diamond headed to Iron Island and confronted his old man. Diamond wanted answers to why Riley had left, but his father would only tell him after they battled and Diamond won that battle with his newly evolved Gallade, Sam. Riley expressed that he was once a lab assistant at the Hoenn Space Center. One of his fellow lab assistants, Cyrus, had a crazy idea of creating a new galaxy. Over the years, Cyrus had inherited wealth and was able to create his own organization to destroy this world of unworthy people and build a world for Pokemon and worthy humans alike. Riley tried to stop it on his own, but unsuccessful. Diamond then realized that he and his father weren't so different. He too tried to do everything himself. After leaving his father, Diamond met up with Diamond and Dawn at the Canalave Library where the Pokemon National Conference of Sinnoh held a meeting about the negative occurences.
However, after an explosion outside, Diamond was immediately sent to Lake Valor to stop Saturn and his Toxicroak. Diamond was able to defeat him, but not able to save Azelf.
After a quick break at home, Diamond met his father on the way out. Finally, Riley would be home now, taking a break from his previous endeavors and allowing Diamond, Dawn, and Pearl to take his place in stopping Team Galactic along with Neo Team Rocket. While Pearl was heading to Lake Acuity, Diamond and Dawn headed to Mt. Coronet to stop Neo Team Rocket from rampaging. Along the way, they met up with the Johto Trio Gold, Silver, and Crys. By now, Diamond had accepted his defeat and reconciled with Gold, although he wanted a rematch once all the turmoil died down. While the five Trainers went through the blizzard filled route, they stumbled upon a fort. Immediately, Silver and Crys were frozen by Neo Team Rocket members, leaving Diamond to devise a plan to infiltrate the fort.
After successfully infiltrating the fort, Diamond, Dawn, and Gold were shocked when Regice was risen from underneath the snow. Unfortunately, Gold and his Johto friends had to go to Sunyshore City at the time, leaving the ice golem to Diamond and Dawn. Ultimately, the Ice Pokemon ventured into Snowpoint Temple and did not come out. Returning to their original plan to help Pearl at Lake Acuity, Diamond and Dawn went there and noticed the blond boy drowning, ultimately they save him, but it was too late. Pearl entire lower half was severely frozen and it would take quite some time for him to recover. This further fueled Diamond's fire to stop Neo Team Rocket.
After receiving note from Rowan that Diamond and Dawn were to head to Team Galactic's Veilstone HQ, the two went there and entered the building. Immediately they were separated, leaving Diamond to fend off a crazy former Galactic Executive, Aster. The crazed man almost defeated Diamond's Yanma, Pilot, sending him flying off of the side of the roof. Diamond dove after Pilot, which helped him evolve into Yanmega, catch Diamond, and defeat Aster by sending him and Dusknoir hurling down the side of the roof to their imminent death. Finally, Diamond saved Dawn, Jacob, and Mira from being trapped in a closet. He told the two younger ones to head on home while he and Dawn went to defeat Cyrus, but were unsuccessful in stopping the machine from absorbing the energy of the Lake Trio.
Later, Diamond returned home for another break and immediately upon returning home, his Egg, which he received from his father, hatched into a Riolu which he named Ronny. However, the break didn't last long as he and Dawn went back out into Mt. Coronet, this time without Pearl who was recovering from injury.
While in the steeper parts of Mt. Coronet, Diamond and Dawn found a knocked out Roark. They immediately woke him up and he guided them into a cave where, unfortunately, Neo Team Rocket was. After splitting up, Diamond over heard Pluto speaking about her past to herself, which is where the current chapter picks up.

During the Gym Leader battle against Gardenia, Trident was taking pretty tough blows. However, the Piplup summed up enough strength to evolve into Prinplup and throttle Roserade with powerful Ice Beam and Ice Punch attacks. Another notable performance was against the infamous Spiritomb. Trident held his own and managed to freeze the Pokemon with his signature Ice Punch attack. Trident finally evolved into Empoleon during an epic battle against the Hearthome Gym Leader, Fantina (Uranus). Since then, it has maintained a heroic and brave personality and has held his own against the toughest of opponents that Diamond has had to face in intense battles. |

Riley personally trained Diamond and Sam to become one with each other and for a moment it worked until Riley left. It was at that moment, Diamond slowly and steadily began to neglect Sam as Riley neglected being with Diamond. When Diamond's journey began, Sam struggled to defeat opponents, despite defeating Pearl's Electabuzz after evolving into Kirlia. In Hearthome City, Diamond faced off against Gold with Sam. During the match, Sam was not doing so well against Gold's Typhlosion which caused Diamond to yell and talk bad to Sam. After hearing Diamond's words, Sam vanished into the bushes. During Sam's time away from Diamond, he went back to Riley on Iron Island and trained with him until meeting up Diamond again in Jubilife City and Canalave City where Diamond apologized. The two then reconciled, defeating not only Byron, but Riley's Lucario as well. During the match against Riley, Sam evolved into Gallade and became one of Diamond's most versatile Pokemon. |

Since then, Rose has been determined to defeat her mother. During a battle against Mark and Marcia's Honchkrow and Mismagius, Rose evolved unleashed a fierce explosion attack that sent them flying out of the Tower. Rose has been used to knockout Grunts and Goon and often times used for her unique Flamethrower attack. |

An example of Dex's craziness is when he charged up the Team Galactic machine underground, giving it more power. As a result, he shocked himself into submission. Dexter was also used to shock the hundreds of Psyducks that were smothering Pearl. Yes, Dex can come in handy at times. |
[cs=3] | ||
[cs=3] Yanma → Yanmega | ||
Nickname: Pilot | OT: Diamond | Gender: Male |

Since then, Pilot has been a vital part of Diamond's team, especially in means of transportation. However, Pilot is still an exceptional battler. His biggest feat yet is when Pilot evolved into Yanmega after being sent hurling over the side of Galactic HQ against Aster and Dusknoir. Pilot evolved after seeing Diamond leap down to save him. As Yanmega, Pilot caught Diamond, flew up to the roof, and took down Aster and Dusknoir. |
[cs=3] | ||
[cs=3] Riolu | ||
Nickname: Ronny | OT: Diamond | Gender: Male |
Nature: Adamant | Ability: Inner Focus | Level: 11 |
[cs=3]Attacks: Quick Attack, Force Palm, Foresight, Endure, Counter, Cross Chop, Vacuum Wave, Iron Defense, Sky Uppercut, Bullet Punch | ||
[cs=3]Info: Perhaps best known for being a purebred Riolu, Ronny is a Pokemon who is obviously adamant and untameable at times. A cute note about Ronny is that his nose is constantly running with snot, which why Diamond named him Ronny. Rowan figured that Ronny's nose runs because of the exposure to the freezing cold of Mt. Coronet. Nonetheless, Ronny is already a strong Pokemon, knowing five Egg moves, unheard of in the world of Pokemon Battling. Ronny was once stolen by a wild Staraptor, but was saved by Aves, Dawn's (now Pearl's) newly evolved Staraptor. Now, Ronny serves as an apprentice to Sam, Diamond's Gallade. |
